Golf Frequently Asked Questions

What is Swingweight?
Swingweight is commonly referred to as the relationship between the weight of the grip end of the club and the head of the club.

What is CPM?
Cycles per minute is the common unit of measurement when discussing the frequency of a shaft or club.

What is Epoxy?
Two part adhesive used to secure golf shafts to clubheads, among other clubmaking operations.

What is FLO?
Flat line oscillation is the process of making all shafts in a set the same orientation so as to flex with as little oscillation as possible.

What is a Frequency analyzer?
Specialized machine used to measure frequencies of golf clubs and shafts. An essential piece of equipment found in better repair/custom club shops.

What is Graphite?
A synthetic material used for shaft and head production. Graphite fibers may differ greatly in strength and modulus (resistance to bending).

What is Loft?
The angle of the club face as related to the shaft position measured in degrees.

What is Lie?
The angle between the shaft and the ground line when the club is measured in the normal playing position.

What is a Swingweight scale?
A type of scale that is most commonly used that measures swingweight at a point down from the butt end of the club and displays those measurements in letter/number designations (D-1, D-2, etc.)

What is OEM?
Original equipment manufacturer i.e., Callaway, Taylor Made, Titleist, Cobra, etc.

What does it mean to Regrip?
The process of installing a new grip onto a club.

What is does it mean to Reshaft?
The process of installing a new shaft into a clubhead.

What is a Shaft puller?
Specialized tool used in the removal of graphite shafts from clubheads. The puller is designed to force the head from the shaft at the precise moment the epoxy bond is broken by heating, reducing the number of damaged shafts as they are removed.

What is Spining?
Process of locating a shaft spine and positioning it either toward or away from the target in a club in accordance with USGA rules.

What is the Spine
?
The point on a shaft in which it exhibits uniform bending properties in relation to the target.

What is Titanium
?
Club head material utilized primarily for woods and irons, it has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than most steel alloys, allowing for bigger heads.

What is Torque?
The resistance of a shaft to twisting is its torque. Lower torque shafts twist less than higher torque shafts.

What is the PCS?
Professional Clubmakers Society is a non-profit, international, independent association. It is the only independent certifying body for golf club fitting, clubmaking and club repair.

What is a Class A Clubmaker?
A certified clubmaker that has passed a written, 350-question test followed by a skills test consisting of six clubs make to exact specifications.

What about Golf Club Repair?
All repairs are by a PCS Class A Clubmaker on premise. Professionally done with prompt service and an eye for detail.

What are Fittings?
Whether for OEM or custom clubs you should be fitted for them by an experienced club fitter who is familiar with the product and how to properly assess your needs and help you pick the proper clubs for you. Most fittings take about 1hr or more and range from $45.00 and up depending on how extensive the fitting is.

What is a Driving Range?
A practice facility that generally consists of an area to practice hitting golf balls, a short game area, usually a PGA Pro for lessons and someone for repairs and fittings. You can hit off of mats or in some cases, grass is available in season.
